Day Trip from Marrakech to Ourika Valley
Departure from Marrakech
At 9:00 am, we depart from Marrakech in a private vehicle or minivan, heading towards the stunning Ourika Valley, located in the foothills of the High Atlas Mountains. This beautiful valley stretches for about 30 km, with the Ourika River flowing through it. While the river’s levels change with the seasons, it never runs dry and is a popular spot for summer whitewater rafting. The drive takes us alongside the river, passing through lush fields, shady orchards, and scenic Berber villages. These villages, with their traditional pisé houses made from local red soil, blend seamlessly with the landscape.
Visit to OurikaTnine Souk
Our first stop is at the OurikaTnine Souk, which means “Monday Market” in Berber. This bustling market is the largest in the valley and offers a true taste of local culture.
Lunch in Setti Fatma
Next, we continue to Setti Fatma, a charming village located at an altitude of 1,500 meters. Here, we enjoy a traditional Berber lunch at a riverside restaurant, offering a peaceful break amidst the beautiful surroundings.
Hiking to the Seven Waterfalls
For the adventurous, there’s an option to hike to the famous seven waterfalls after lunch. This challenging trek takes about two hours over difficult, sometimes slippery terrain, so proper footwear is essential. The hike, however, rewards those who complete it with breathtaking views of the waterfalls, where you can even swim in the clear pools formed by the cascades.
Relaxation and Shopping in Setti Fatma
If you prefer a more relaxed afternoon, you can stay in Setti Fatma, sipping mint tea or shopping for local handicrafts. The village is known for its hand-woven rugs and other beautiful items, all crafted by artisans from the surrounding villages in the Ourika Valley.
Return to Marrakech
After a full day of exploration, we begin our return journey to Marrakech, arriving in the late afternoon.
